Once in A Lifetime Antique Long Guard Chain 18K Gold 1840
I’m so proud to be able to offer you this RARE, super long, antique long guard chain from 1840!!! To think that this chain is 181 years old?!
This is one of those pieces you never find and when you do they are priced extremely high. Both mere lenght of the chain, and the beautiful ornamented Fede hand swivel part makes this one absolutely extraordinary compared to other pieces in this style that I have seen.
What’s very special about this one is that it has complete proof of age. On the swivel part you can find full Swedish hallmarks for 1840. So no guessing that she!
The gold is stunning too… beautiful, buttery 18K solid gold and weighing in on a whopping 40 grams!!!
With her 52 inches/132 cm she wraps around your head up to three times giving you endless styling possibilities.
The heart charm you see in the neck pics isn’t part of the chain. I just wanted to show you how you can attach pendants and charms to the end of the chain.
The very old technique used for the decoration on the clasp part is called repoussé. Where chasing is the art of creating design on metal, from the front side, repoussé is the act of pushing the metal up, from the backside which is only something that extremely skilled goldsmiths can do. Especially this detailed and beautifully.
Holding the clasp is an iconic Fede hand. You can read my blog post about Fede hands here.
The upper part of the clasp part is a slider and can slide back and forth. You can play with this element too when you style the chain.
The chain itself is a tight mesh link, very very study and wearable.
Since the chain is almost 200 years old the chain itself has a few insignificant kinks here and there as you can see in the pics… Which is really expected in a piece this old. It’s not broken in any way, and this doesn’t make it less robust.
The swivel clasp and slider are working perfectly, and will hold rather heavy pendants - or a pocket watch as it originally were used for.
The chain is 3 mm in diameter and the end with the decorations is 70 mm long and 11 mm wide (including the clasp). It’s super sturdy and you will be able to wear it everyday should you want that.
All parts are original the chain.
May the best woman or man get this historic treasure.
