Antique Art Deco Plique-a-jour Enamel Madonna Pendant 18K Gold 1920s
An antique sublime, heavy 18K plique-à-jour enamel Madonna pendant with plique-a-jour enamel.
Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is a vitreous enamelling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so that light can shine through the transparent enamel. It’s a miniature version of stained-glass. The technique is very challenging technically, and super time consuming (up to 4 months per item), with a very high failure rate 🌙
This true plique-à-jour masterpiece of a Madonna pendant (dating to the 1920s Art Deco era) is super heavy on 9.8 grams and she’s 21mm in diameter without bale. The craftsmanship is just amazing! She’s done in 18K solid gold and she solid through and through. Excellent cond with zero to minor wear.
The price is for the pendant only.
