Niello was a popular metallic alloy with sulfur which was used through history in jewelry making as a surface decoration technique (just like enamel) on different metals.
Niello only comes black which contrasts highly with silver, the most popular base for niello work in antique jewelry.
This particular antique watch chain dates to the late 1800s and is in amazing condition. The chain comes with different elements original to the piece. Like a two bolt clasps (one smaller and one big - the big one is detachable), and horse shoe on a detachable pendant holder so there’s plenty to play with. The antique teddybear is not a part of the chain and can be bought separately.
The chain is 16.75 inches/42 cm long. 3.5 mm wide. Big bolt is 21 mm in diameter, small bolt is 10 mm in diameter, dog clip is 22 mm long. Made in sterling silver.
The condition is excellent with no to minimal loss of niello. All clasps are working perfectly.
