Outstanding Antique C. G. Hallberg Bangle 18K Gold 1884
I’m so proud to offer this very special Swedish 137-year-old treasure for sale.
She’s a Victorian bangle from year 1884 in her original box from the famous Swedish goldsmith, who also made her: C. G. Hallberg.
C. G. Hallberg was a very prominent goldsmith (he was jeweler to royal Swedish court) who was located in Fredsgatan in Stockholm. And boy did that master goldsmith do an absolutely out-of-this-world amazing job with this one!
The very old technique used for the decoration on the bangle is called repoussé. Where chasing is the art of creating design on metal, from the front side, repoussé is the act of pushing the metal up, from the backside which is only something that extremely skilled goldsmiths can do. Especially this detailed and beautiful. The decoration depicts figures, flowers, birds, and foiling in 3D.
The bangle is made in 18K solid yellow gold but the repousse relief has a rose gold frame around it.
This incredible bangle was probably done by request from someone very important, perhaps royalty. This would have costed a small fortune at that time and only someone very rich would have been able to purchase it.
The bangle has full hallmarks for year, maker, and country and it weighs 20.8 grams. The inside diameter is 64x52 mm and the inside circumference is 7.3 inches. The bangle is oval.
The front side of the bangle is in excellent condition with minor wear. Repousse work is totally intact. The clasp is working 100 % well and has a security chain attached. The backside of the bangle has several small soft dents, like it’s just a bit uneven all over. I don’t think that this compromises the beauty of the bangle in any way. Just adds to all the soul and character that this lady has.
Comes with her original leather box from 1884.
