Amazing HG or HB Antique Signet Ring w Agate Finland 1847
She’s almost 200 years old, and she’s magical!
A banded agate signet stone in an out of this world beautiful repoussé 18K gold band with the most mesmerizing garden ornament repoussé.
Repoussé is an old method of decorating metals in which parts of the design are raised in relief from the back or the inside of the article by means of hammers and punches (definition and detail can then be added from the front by chasing or engraving). The name repoussé is derived from the French pousser, “to push forward.” This ancient technique, which has been used extensively throughout the history of metalworking, achieved widespread popularity in Europe during the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries.
This particular example dates to the beg 1800s and has old Finnish hallmarks: Boat for Helsinki, crown for Finland and M2 for 1847.
The stone is a blood red banded agate with inscribes letters. I think this could read H.B. or H.G
The ring fits like a size 9.25 US. She’s in excellent condition for her age! Please see pics for minor signs of age.
