Magnificent Antique 23K Gold Wedding Band Uppsala 1896
She is 130 years old, and she GLOWS. A wedding band in 23K gold - nearly pure, with that deep, buttery warmth you only find in the oldest Scandinavian pieces - made in Uppsala and hallmarked for 1896. All the way around her runs a hand-engraved band of flowers and foliage, softened just enough by a century of wear to feel like velvet.
She carries her full set of Swedish hallmarks - you can read them yourself in my hallmark encyclopedia: Swedish Hallmarks - and inside, the inscription from the woman who first wore her in 1896. I have written about why these old bands carry so much meaning here: Wedding Band vs. Engagement Ring - and about the long story of how rings came to mean forever here: The History of the Engagement Ring
She weighs around 5 grams, fits like a size 6.75 US, and her band is ever so slightly asymmetrical - a little tell of a long life well loved, nothing you feel or see on the hand. Any coloured areas you might spot in the photos are just reflections from the surroundings - she is all warm gold. She is in excellent condition with normal signs of age for her 130 years.
